Known History

Romeo's Juliet. The name alone evokes the sweetness of Italy, the frothy insouciance of the 1950s, the Mediterranean Sun. The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is a masterpiece within its genre. Combining brilliant and sensitive mechanics with light, elegant and sporty bodywork, this car contains all the ingredients of an irresistible seduction. With its painted steel dashboard, round dials, gear-lever close to the floor and small, comfortable seats, the Giulietta evoked dreams of youth, and still does today! First introduced in 1954 as a coupÚ, designed by Bertone, the Giulietta then appeared in its "spider" version one year later, this time with Pininfarina bodywork. The modern 1300-cc engine, equipped with two overhead camshafts, ensures a brilliant performance that at the time surpassed even the most opulent cars. In 1959 a number of improvements were made to the attractive saloon: the wheelbase was extended together with the doors, which were then equipped with a deflector, the glove compartment was lockable and the engine power increased by 15 hp, with the new 80 hp output allowing a maximum speed of 160 km/h (100 mph).

This 1300 cc, type 750 D spider is part of a so-called "Interim" series released in 1959, recognizable by its protruding rear lamps and fixed deflector windows. This small series foreshadows the upcoming 101 series with a 5 cm longer wheelbase but a handful of these spiders retained the shorter wheelbase of 2.20m and as there is no precise source for this subject, it is therefore necessary to measure the wheelbase. In 2017, a restoration was undertaken on the bodywork and painting, upholstery, and mechanicals. The engine, fitted with two Weber carburettors, has been overhauled and its performance improved. The gearbox and clutch were also redone as were the brakes and suspensions. The tank has been replaced by a new one in stainless steel and a high-pressure fuel pump has been added, which facilitates cold starts. The radiator and the water pump and all the hoses were replaced as well as the electrical circuit. The brakes have also been completely reconditioned as well as the exhaust. It is equipped with sports seats and a 4-point harness. It has not been driven much since its restoration and has participated in the Rally de Princesses, which makes it an ideal car for participating in regularity events.
