Known History

Despite its inevitable teething problems, the DS maintained its lead by receiving all kinds of improvements on all points throughout its 20-year career, of which the most important involved increasingly powerful engines, in order to take maximum advantage of the dynamic qualities of the chassis. In 1964, CitroŽn launched its optional Pallas version of the DS 19, which offered as standard, according to the manufacturer, 41 more luxurious or more elegant external and internal finishings, including better soundproofing, protective side strips, special casings for the roof and sill struts, hub caps and special embellishments, laminated windscreen (1973), external and internal lighting, special shades, driver's seat with adjustable height (1966), thick fitted carpet, etc. This progressive level of finishing was then offered on the DS 20, 21 and 23 until production ceased. In 1972, the 2.3 litre engine DS 23 (93.5 x 85.5 mm), providing 124 hp with a double body carburettor (DX4) or 141 hp with Bosch electronic injection (ref. DX5) ranked among the fastest, most comfortable and safest touring cars in the world. It was with this tried and tested mechanism that the DS ended its career in 1975 in a carburettor or injection version.ue la DS acheva sa carriŤre en 1975 en versions carburateur ou injection.

The car on sale has been completely restored recently by Cuir & Chrome in Gargenville. The chassis and openings have been cataphoretically treated, so that they are no longer subject to rust. Everything was redone as per good restoration practices (except the gearbox) and the result is astounding. Over Ä 60,000 has been invested in this professional restoration. The body, repainted in Beige "Tholonet", (name of a village in Provence), the interior in black leather and the charcoal grey wool carpets with light leather trims have the most beautiful effect. The pearl grey wool headliner pairs perfectly with this luxurious ensemble. The original radio has been converted and upgrated with a FM tuner and auxiliary socket for player, and a central locking controlled by a Blip has been installed.
