One of 712 examples of the 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina’ made with fibreglass body panels
Delivered new in the highly desirable combination of Azzurro over Beige leather
Retains its matching-numbers engine and transmission
Offered with a 308 GTB/GTS manual, jack, and spare wheel

Introduced in 1975, the Ferrari 308 GTB, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, featured a modern design initially rendered in fibreglass—or ‘Vetroresina’ in Italian. It was the first production Ferrari to be built with a body made of the lightweight composite material. While the 308 and its various iterations would prove highly successful, Ferrari moved away from fiberglass construction to the more familiar steel panels after a limited number of cars were completed. According to the marque expert, Marcel Massini, as few as 712 cars received ‘Vetroresina’ bodywork. The early 'Vetroresina’ cars were substantially lighter than the metal-made 308s that followed: Weighing in at only 1,050 kilograms, the fibreglass car tipped the scales at approximately 150 kilograms less than their steel-bodied successors, allowing the drivers to take full advantage of the 308’s transverse mid-mounted 2.9-litre V-8 for optimal handling.

This 308 GTB was manufactured in December 1976 and left the factory finished in Azzurro over a Beige leather interior before being delivered to its first owner in Italy. Today the car is finished in red and retains its factory-correct Beige leather interior. The odometer reads 17,229 km at the time of cataloguing. This desirable lightweight 308 GTB is offered with a 308 GTB/GTS manual jack, and spare wheel.
