A 1957 Ranchero advertisement describes the vehicle as, “ More than a car! More than a truck! ” - a rather exuberant way of pointing out the blatantly obvious. In keeping with the traditional meaning of the new Ford ’ s name, the picture of said advertisement displayed a Ranchero on a ranch with cowboys on horseback admiring the vehicle.

Two years later, Ford had a clearer idea of what they were offering and to whom. In 1959 the slogan had become "NOW...GO FORD-WARD FOR STYLE!" An advertisement featuring the 1959 slogan would go on to emphasize that the new 1959 Ford Ranchero was "the only truck with true passenger-car comfort and driving ease." 1959 also marked the year that the Ranchero faced its first competitor, the El Camino, a Chevrolet built using exactly the same formula as the Ranchero. Much to Ford ’ s chagrin, Chevrolet not only blatantly copied their vehicle but they even had the audacity to give it a Hispanic-derived name!

Despite the El Camino ’ s entrance to the newly developed car/truck market Ford would always retain bragging rights as being the originator. From 1957 through 1959, the Ranchero shared the same platform as the full size Fairlane and featured all the same powertrain options including the Thunderbird 352 special V8 engine as well as luxurious interior trim options. The Ranchero was offered in the standard model as well as the custom model, which featured attractive body side molding, more accessories, and the more elaborate interior finishing. Many of these Rancheros were offered with two tone paint and very attractive interior trim options, making these some of the most desirable Fords sought after by today ’ s collector.

The 1959 Ranchero offered here was purchased new in Arizona and remained with its original owner for thirty years before being acquired by the Cappy Collection. It is finished in Inca Gold and white with an Inca Gold, white, and black three-tone interior. While in the Cappy Collection, the Ranchero had been treated to a series of cosmetic restoration work, which included the installation of a new interior, a repaint and a thorough detailing of the engine compartment. Areas such as the brightwork and underside, because of their favorable condition, have remained original to this day.

The overall condition of the Ranchero may best be described as being a truly impressive car with a host of desirable options including a 352 cubic inch V8 engine, an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, twin spot lights with rare warning lights, Fairlane interior and trim option, factory air conditioning, chrome bedrail and sunray hubcaps.
