Corvette’s performance credentials were well established by 1960, well enough that veteran American sports car racer Briggs Cunningham took three Corvettes to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Corvette’s first serious and semi-factory backed assault on the most significant of all endurance races. Success at Le Mans is frequently as much about good fortune as preparation and speed, and one of Cunningham’s Corvettes pressed on, running well in the top 10 until it ultimately finished 8th overall.

Corvette production for 1960 amounted to 10,261 cars. Typical of the times, a wide variety of options were available to tailor each Corvette to its owner’s desires, from power windows and courtesy lights to metallic brake linings and high capacity fuel tanks. Even if the buyer chose to take their Corvette stock, out of the box, it was certainly no slouch; with a 230 horsepower V8 engine and a three speed manual transmission, it had still to meet an American rival. Also in 1960, a revised rear suspension with a new sway bar did wonders to keep the solid rear axle Corvette planted in corners.

The 1960 Corvette offered here is fitted with the tried and true 283 cu. in. V8 engine with a four-barrel Holley carburetor and is mated to the optional four-speed manual transmission. Recently restored, it was professionally repainted, the chrome has been refinished, the stainless is all freshly polished and the interior was reupholstered. Finished in the classic combination of red with contrasting white coves, the Corvette has a WonderBar radio and a black hard top to match the interior. The engine is very well detailed with all the expected period hardware. With wide whitewall tires, great looks, and a fresh restoration, the Corvette is ready to go.

The 1960 Corvette is particularly appreciated by many collectors for its styling. It is the last year for both the taillights recessing into tunnels on the rear fenders and the classic Corvette grille with chrome “teeth.” Refined by several years’ development since the 283 V8’s introduction in 1957, this 1960 Corvette is carefully restored, mechanically fresh and beautifully presented with livery emblematic of the times.
