The Jaguar XK140 SE Fixedhead Coupé was a sports car produced by Jaguar Cars between 1954 and 1957. It was an updated version of the previous model the XK120, with several improvements including more interior space, improved brakes and steering, and a revised suspension system. The SE version was even more powerful, with a C-type cylinder head and dual exhaust system, producing 210bhp. The XK140 SE Fixedhead Coupé was a stunning car to look at, with its sleek and aerodynamic design. It featured a long bonnet, flowing wings, and a curved roofline that gave it a sporty and elegant look. The interior was equally impressive, with leather seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a stylish dashboard. With its powerful engine and agile handling, the XK140 SE Fixedhead Coupé was a joy to drive. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around eight seconds and had a top speed of 125 mph, making it one of the fastest cars of its time. It was also a comfortable and refined car to drive, with a smooth ride and excellent noise insulation.
This very good Jaguar XK140 SE, is one of the rare special equipment models fitted with the C-Type cylinder head and has an eight to one compression ratio, this was supplied new in right hand drive by Jaguar’s main dealers Henlys to Dr. Victor Water of Hallam Street, London, W1 on 26th May 1956. Little is known of the XK140 SE until 1985 where it was owned by Mr. P. De Lange of Natal in South Africa. The XK changed hands in 2009 to Mr. G. Mekisich and later sold to Mr. S. Van Staden and during this period was restored with many Invoices from Guy Broad XK parts specialist UK. The XK140 SE was purchased by the current owner in Johannesburg in 2016 where it remained enjoying life being regularly used, serviced and garaged until being re-imported to the UK arriving here at the beginning of May 2023. At the time of cataloging the car has been issued a NOVA certificate, waiting for an MoT test certificate and the forms to be sent to DVLA for UK registration which we hope will be completed by the time of the auction. Matching engine to chassis numbers this Jaguar has benefited from fitting of a Jaguar four-speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive, disc brakes to the front along with a Kenlow fan to aid keeping the car cool and under control. These sensible upgrades are a pleasure, improves the drivability, particularly for long distance touring. The XK140 is offered with a detailed history with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, confirming body – chassis and engine are correct and also detailed in the XK world register and recorded in the recent publication XK’s Southern hemisphere. The overall condition of the XK140 is an older restoration finished in old English white, very clean chrome and delightful upholstery in a lovely deep red leather, gleaming woodwork and clean carpets, door cards. The boot area is in keeping with the rest of the car and the car is ready to use and enjoy.
