300 SEL 6.8 "Rote Sau" Replica
| With its 6.3 litre V8 the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3, built in the late 60s in only 6’526 examples, was a very potent and rapid saloon indeed. This performance still was not enough for the tuning company AMG and it was decided to build a rather outrageous racing version for the touring car championship. The engine was enlarged to 6.8 litres and with new cylinder heads delivered in excess of 400 hp. The engine was coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The suspension was adapted for racing and the coach work and interior stripped of any excessive weight. The effort was not in vain and resulted in the “red pig” achieving second place overall in 1971 Spa 24 hours. The car we have on offer is an exact replica of the racing legend and was carefully constructed over a number of years. Since its completion this power pack has only covered about 550 kilometres. Consequently, the Mercedes is in outstanding condition and ready to demonstrate it‘s potential at future historic racing events. Being an all-out race car the 300 SEL does not have a road registration and will be offered with EU customs documents. Swiss customs duties have not been paid yet.
