This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro is a tastefully updated summer cruiser with fantastic performance upgrades. In the late 1960s, Pony Cars were all the rage. While Ford had its Mustang and Chrysler had the Plymouth Barracuda, Chevy was missing a pony car from its product offerings. It was also becoming increasingly clear to Chevrolet leadership that the Corvair and the Chevy II/Nova would not be adequate competitors to the youth-oriented Mustang. As such, the wheels were set in motion for the development of a true challenger to the massively successful Mustang. In 1967, the Camaro made its debut essentially replicating the traditional pony car formula consisting of a small, sporty body paired with a high performance drivetrain, all for a modest price the Camaro was considered a major success for the GM marque by selling over two-hundred thousand units in that first year. Due to the success experienced in 1967, Chevrolet opted for minimal changes in its 1968 reprise of the mega-hit Camaro. A more modern wraparound windshield, larger door windows, and "Astro Ventilation" replaced the 1967 Camaro's vent windows. Due to new government regulations, rectangular marker lights were added in '68 as well. The 1968 Camaro interiors were also refreshed with restyled center consoles, new upholstery options, and new secondary gauge designs. This particular '68 Camaro comes to us from a collector who has owned the car for over 15 years and has truly enjoyed the car while under their stewardship. Powering this '68 Camaro is an upgraded 355 Cubic Inch V8 that is fed via an Edelbrock single 4 barrel carburetor. The ignition system has also been upgraded to an MSD ignition setup that provides for a more reliable start up. The 355 crate motor is backed by a Tremec 5 Speed Manual Transmission that makes this Chevy muscle car an absolute blast to drive. Exhaust exits the NOM 355 V8 via a a set of headers and through dual Flowmaster mufflers that give this '68 Camaro a terrific throaty sound out the rear tailpipes. Due to all of the performance upgrades made to this Camaro, the stock suspension was also beefed up with front and rear Hotchkis sway bars, subframe connectors, and rear traction bars. In addition to the engine and suspension upgrades, this Camaro is outfitted with several desirable options as well. With power front disc brakes, this 1968 Camaro has plenty of stopping power especially with all that extra horsepower under the hood. Power steering also makes this '68 Chevy Camaro much more enjoyable to take on a summer cruise since it simplifies squeezing into that tight spot at the local car show. Riding on a set of Coys C-5 chrome wheels with P225/45ZR17 radial tires in front and P275/40ZR17 radials in the back, this 1968 Camaro has a great stance and fantastic ride. The exterior on this Camaro has been refinished in a beautiful Matador Red accented with SS-style bumblebee striping and a gorgeous black vinyl top that completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1968 Camaro looks great! The front bucket seats have been upgraded to a sportier style bucket upholstered in black vinyl. The black vinyl rear bench seat, center console, door panels, carpeting and padded dash all retain their stock appearance and appear to be in wonderful condition. The dash is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer and fuel gauge. An 8,000 RPM Equus Tachometer has been added to the steering column along with aftermarket oil pressure and temperature gauges for improved insight into how the engine is performing. A retro-style AM/FM/Cassette entertainment system with a pair of Pioneer speakers have also been added so that you can listen to all of your tunes while cruising down the road.
