An appealing, correct and very sound example, attractively finished in Sage green and Smoke green, with original tan leather upholstery, contrasting tastefully with the paintwork. The car has lived most of its life in kind climates – initially in Cyprus - and as a result is delightfully free of corrosion, which is particularly important in the case these models. Well cared-for, very smart, with the benefit of power steering, inertia reel seat belts and air conditioning (not tested). New tyres, fuel pumps, starter motor and battery were fitted recently, as well as various repairs and attention by the owner of the last 15 years, and a stainless steel exhaust system is fitted. Also, unusually, there are a pair of leather 'mushroom' seats which slot onto the rear bumper over riders, similar to those sometimes fitted to Radford converted cars. Comes with an original kit of tools, large & small, a history file, containing various invoices, a long run of MoT certificates, other documentation, and a letter from the original owner’s wife, etc, and is offered serviced, prepared and newly MoT tested. An ideal example to use, enjoy and be proud of.

Chassis No. B95EK Reg No. GFO 145

Snippets: A Flying Grenadier
The first owner of B95EK was Vincent Alexander Prideaux Budge (1913/81), a career soldier whose father Lt-Col Hubert Budge was killed in 1916 whilst serving with the Royal Scots & as was his uncle Brevet Lt-Col Philip Budge RFA in 1918. V.A.P. Budge was a keen Rugby player having played for Blundell School and RMC Sandhurst on the left wing, in 1935 he had the honour of carrying the Regimental Colour during an official visit to Aldershot by the Duke of Connaught. In 1933 he took part in the Monte Carlo Rally which that year had 130 entrants, he finished a credible 58th in his Standard SS1, however due to the extreme weather conditions 44 entrants retired or crashed! Budge was also a pilot being a member of Cotswold Aero Club, in 1936 whilst stationed in Alexandria he and 2nd Lt Trotter (a fellow Grenadier) flew from Alexandria to Cape Town. The following year Budge advertised his Miles M.2H Hawk Major G.ADIT for sale with it having flown 350 hours with extra tanks to allow for such trips. During WWII he was stationed in Cairo with the Grenadier Guards where he became the head of the Greek Section for the SOE – he was involved in Operation Noah’s Ark with the objective being “to so harass the withdrawal of German Troops from Crete, the Island and Greece, that formations and units will be unable to go into battle on other fronts without considerable re-organisation, training & re-equipping”, this operation was the code-name for Phase III of the military policy which was adopted by the Greek guerrilla movement. As a result of his actions during WWII in 1948 he was made an Officer of the Royal Order of Phoenix with Swords. In 1957 he and his family (he married Pamela Stokes whilst he was posted in Alexandria in 1943) were stationed in Cyprus with the Middle East Defence Secretariat where he took delivery of B95EK, when he was later posted to Delhi as Defence Adviser the car went with him. It is reported that he enjoyed fishing in Kashmir with May to Mid-September being the best time. After his retirement in 1968 he dedicated his time to Nordic skiing and later became a founding member of the Skiers Trust, when his son David joined the Army, he trained as an alpine skier and in 1975 he was the UK Army Alpine Ski Champion.
