This 1959 Chevrolet 3100 Apache Stepside Pickup Truck is nicely restored stock example, reminiscent of the trucks on America's roads in the late 1950s. Starting in the middle of the 1950s, Chevrolet began to place a greater emphasis on the style of its trucks since trucks were becoming daily transportation, as opposed to just work trucks. As the decade progressed and the GM marque released new truck designs, the new trucks were roomier, more stylish, and seem to offer a greater number of "creature comforts." In fact, Chevrolet itself even acknowledged this trend in its 1959 truck marketing materials when it stated that trucks are "more than income producing machinery. [They are also] well groomed representatives in the field." In October 1958, Chevrolet debuted its 1959 truck line to the general public which was largely based on the completely redesigned '58 Chevy trucks. Perhaps the most notable change occurred with respect to the new more ornate and pronounced hood emblem, with a large Chevrolet logo on top of a waffle patterned background. Of course, there were other modest updates in 1959 such as new color options but for the most part the look and feel of the "Task Force" Chevrolet Pickups stayed the same. Chevrolet also carried forward into 1959 its the "Apache," "Viking," and "Spartan" class designations, corresponding to the respective two-digit numerical series designations of 31 (light duty), 40 (medium duty), and 70 (heavy duty). In 1959, Chevrolet produced over 325,000 trucks across all of its series, which made the GM marque the second largest US truck manufacturer (behind Ford) due to supply shortages caused by a steel workers strike. Under the hood on this 1959 Chevrolet Apache is a "Thriftmaster" 235 Cubic Inch Inline 6 cylinder engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 135 horsepower when new. The 235 Thriftmaster 6 cyl is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using the neat "3 on the tree" column-mounted shifter. Exhaust exits the 235 Thriftmaster Straight 6 through a single tailpipe that generates a nice throaty sound out the rear. While Chevy did begin to prioritize style on its Apache line, creature comforts were fairly limited compared to its passenger cars; however, this particular '59 Apache Stepside does sport several desirable options. The driver's side chrome outside mirror is a fantastic addition on any truck from the 1950s, since it makes squeezing into a tight space much easier and way less nerve-wracking. Front and rear chrome bumpers are another great option on this 1959 Chevrolet 3100 and gives the truck a stand-out look. The steel stepside pickup box is in great shape, as is the finished wood slat bed and wooden stake sides. This 1959 Chevy 3100 Apache rides on a set of wide whitewall radial tires that are mounted on painted steel wheels accented with hubcaps and beauty rings, giving this half-ton pickup truck a fantastic look and even better ride. The steel body of this '59 Apache Pickup has been refinished in a beautiful Cardinal Red paint scheme that completes the exterior look of the truck. The interior of this 1959 Chevrolet Apache 3100 Stepside Pickup is gorgeous! The seating setup has been tastefully upgraded to a bit plusher beige cloth bench seat. The black carpeting, two-tone painted door panels and dash, and steering wheel all retain a nice stock appearance and appear to be in great shape. The instrument cluster is outfitted with a 100 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The cab on this 1/2 ton pickup truck is finished with a chrome rearview mirror, driver's side sun visor, and locking glovebox. Whether you're buying your first classic pickup truck or you're adding to an existing collection of GM workhorses, this 1959 Chevrolet 3100 Apache Stepside Pickup truck would make an excellent choice.
