- When you think of Shelby American race cars you naturally picture them on a road course. But there was another competition offered for the public. It was a GT350 specifically modified for straight line quarter mile competition.
- The GT350 drag program began much as the Cobra drag race program did
- Shelby American's sales representative Don McCain, a drag racing enthusiast approached Shelby's director of public affairs, Max Muhleman with the idea of preparing a GT350 that would be actively drag raced in Southern California
- Drag units were shipped to Les Ritchey's Performance Associates for the conversion
- A total of 4 drag units were built in 1965, and this is one of only two known to exist
