“There are certain descriptive words we have adopted as a shorthand way of defining the kind of automobile Buick owners expect of us. Two of those words are ‘ Substantial ’ and ‘ Distinctive. ’ These words convey a mindset that refuses to follow fads and opts instead for substance and style. Buick owners have set a high level of expectation that our automobiles must meet in every detail. ” – 1990 Buick Reatta brochure.

Designed to be second highest on the General Motors totem pole, behind Cadillac, Buick has historically treaded on Cadillac territory on several occasions, nipping at its heels with luxury cars that could be seen as a direct competitor.

In January of 1988, Buick released its brand new luxury two-passenger car, the Reatta. It combined a sporty appearance, aerodynamic styling, and a dynamic ride. The Reatta was intended to carve out a market niche that involved a combination of luxury car and sports car elements at a price well below that of cars at the upper end of either market. The Reatta had front-wheel drive, the 3800 V6 engine, an independent suspension and quick ratio power steering. And while it was significantly less expensive than its Cadillac sibling, the Allante, its design and style in the eyes of most put it in the same category and class.

While Reattas remains a rare find, the example offered from the collection of Marvin Tamaroff is a very special automobile. Hand built in a Cadillac plant by Oldsmobile workers for Buick, General Motors released a limited edition Reatta for the top 60 Buick dealers. As Mr. Tamaroff fit this criterion, this example was shipped new to his Buick dealership and still bears his dealer plate inside. Distinguishing these dealer special Reattas is easy as they were the only ones offered white with a red and white leather interior, white vinyl power top, and black and chrome exterior trim. Having resided in Mr. Tamaroff ’ s collection since new and rarely driven, the total mileage of this Reatta remains at just 6,888 miles.

This limited edition Reatta is in time warp original condition and will add both originality and modernity to anyone ’ s collection.
