After the war, America started its love affair with the British sports car, and it did not go unnoticed that sports cars attracted customers to showrooms. At the time dream cars were a feature of American motor shows and late in 1951 Harley Earl, General Motors chief stylist, sketched out a sports car named the Corvette which, in January 1953, was shown at the Motorama in New York. Production began in June of the same year with the standard six cylinder 160bhp engine, but by 1956 this had grown into a V8. A fibreglass body was fitted from the start; early cars could reach 105mph and 115mph and the car had excellent acceleration and handling.

Most people consider that the early cars are much better looking than the later examples. It is believed that 3,467 cars were made in 1956, but sales increased quite dramatically after this time, and within 10 years they were up to nearly 28,000 a year.

This 1958 example, arguably the most sought of all fifties and early sixties 'Vettes' is traditionally finished in grey with a black hood. The car is said to be in very good overall condition and especially the paint work and body are said to be excellent. The car also has a very good interior and still has its original radio. Furthermore it is fitted with the very desirable 4 speed manual gearbox. This Corvette is also said to be a very enjoyable and reliable drive and is complete with all corresponding paperwork and EEG duties paid. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a very interesting piece of American motor history and attracts as much attention today as it did the day it rolled of the production line.
