General Specifications

The DBR1 was designed as a replacement for the DB3S

The DBR1's was designed as a replacement for the DB3S, as originally delivered, were strictly for competition purposes and had magnesium body panels and a chrome-molybdenum tube frame. The engine (type RB6) was longitudinally-mounted in-line six, with aluminum block and head. The displacement was 2992cc., which developed a rated 240 bhp @ 6250 rpm. The cars had triple Weber 45 DCO carburetors, twin overhead cams, and two valves per cylinder. They came with a 5 spd. transaxle. The body was designed by Frank Feeley.

To quote George Stradlater, "Ironically, the car's achilles heal had always been it's gearbox, a complicated  transaxle that was extremely fragile in 1957 and merely uncooperative by 1959. For the first time, a DBR1 that Moss used in practice at Goodwood was fit with a  reliable, smooth-shifting Maserati 5-spd. "At last" Moss later said, "The DBR1 really has become a fabulous car."
