Sunday 14 March will witness the 15th running of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, when the fairways of the Golf Club of Amelia Island, adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, will be laden with a spectacular array of two and four wheel machinery. The honoree for 2010 is American motor racing legend, Richard “The King” Petty, a seven times NASCAR Champion, winner of some 200 races including seven Daytona 500s, a feat not equalled by anybody to date. Also in attendance will the “Big Daddy” of drag racing Don Garlits, who was the first driver to win three NHRA national titles and three world Championships. Sir Stirling Moss was supposed to complete the trio of motor sport legends, but a recent fall at his home in London, when he broke both ankles, will make his appearance unlikely.

The featured marque for 2010 will be Mercedes-Benz, with a special class for classic models and another for Gullwings. In total the field will comprise of thirty three classes, including Cars of the Cuban Races, Cars You Never Knew Existed, Etceterini, European Custom Coachwork French, Ferrari and Forgotten Fibreglass, so there should be something for every taste. The 2009 attendance figure was over 15,000, so get their early to avoid the queues!
