The traditional RM Auction will precede the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Resort on Amelia Island. This will be the 12th running of their Amelia Island auction, where they have a proven track record, having sold over 25 one million-dollar-plus vehicles at the venue over the years.
Highlights of this year’s offerings include a 1964 Shelby Cobra USRRC Team Car, chassis # CSX 2557, one of only six examples built, a very rare alloy bodied 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (only 16 of the 330 examples built received alloy bodies), chassis # 09501, a 1958 Tojeiro Jaguar sports racing car and an original 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” Spider finished in Giallo Fly. Other rarities on offer include a 1964 Pontiac Banshee Coupé Concept, a 1960 Abarth 850 Allemano coupé, a 1963 Watson “Leader Card 500” Indy Roadster, a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 and a 1910 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Landaulette –variety is the spice of life!
The auction also features 55 cars from the vast Houston, Texas, based collection of the late John M. O’Quinn, which are an as eclectic selection as the other cars in the auction. Pride of place must go to the pair of Duesenbergs, a 1930 Model J Sport Berline and a 1932 Model J Convertible Coupé. However, it was not just pre-war luxury cars that he collected, but almost anything with four wheels. As an example of the diversity of the collection, other offerings range from a 1956 Messerschmitt KR200 Kabinenroller, through a 1960 BMW Isetta 300, a 1964 Amphicar 770 Convertible, a 1940 Mercury Custom Coupé, an ex-Hank Williams Jr. customised 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible, an ex-Dean Martin 1962 Dual-Ghia L6.4 Coupé to a 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 Zagato Roadster.
