Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder
In 1957 the Maserati A6 G54 replacement, the Maserati 3500 GT was launched at the Geneva Motor Show, it was a Touring bodied Coupe, the 6-cylinder 3,5 litre engine was derived from the Maserati 350 S race car, the power output was reduced to 220 - 230 bhp. In early 1957 Frua produced a Spyder prototype, which was followed by 2 Touring Spyders in 1958, in 1959 Maserati selected the Spyder from Vignale based on a design by Giovanni Michelotti as their coming model. The Maserati 3500 GT Spyder was launched in 1959 at the Torino Motor Show. - Production Years: 1959 - 1964

- The 3500 GT was replaced in 1961 with the 3500 GTi
- The 3 Weber carburators were replaced with a Lucas Iniezione

- Series 2 cars had Lucas fuel-injection, disc brakes, 7 instruments and different seats.
- 5-speed manual was optional as well as wire wheels and a hardtop.

The low end has to be defined differently for some models, one will not find an unrestored Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder in our days, a low end would be an very well maintained "Open Headlight Spyder" with an earlier restoration, where a low end Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder would need the mother of all restorations, such a Vignale Spyder with s/n 2771 was in the Rosso Bianco Peter Kauss Collection and was auctioned already last year by Bonhams in Monaco and is offered this year again.
The car does not look good - like many of the Rosso Bianco cars - it looks very neglected, but it is better then a car which was sitting for years in the fields, if the chassis would be straight, it would make a good start for a perfect restoration, DK Engineering in Watford would be a good address for such a job or Candini in Modena.
What do you think, what should the price for a good Vignale Spyder be, is it underrated, should it be priced like the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster of which 1858 cars were produced versus 242. Should be the price similar to a BMW 507 Roadster, which is better looking indeeded, but which is very unconfortable to drive, but on the other hand who is driving these "Pieces of Art", it is definetively better looking then a Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Series II Convertible.

One more help .. several BMW 507 Roadsters (may be 5) were advertised on anamera, all were sold in days, the chances to buy on of this design icons is very low, because availability is very low, this is the same for the Vignale Spyder, 300 SL's are availabe ... but are sold also within days ... a Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder comes rarely to the market, because the buyers have already lined up, Mark Ketcham a California based broker told us he has several buyers in line, in case such a car can be bought ...
