Sardinia's Poltu Quatu Classic Confirmed for July

The Poltu Quatu Classic returns to the scene of major international events with its fifth edition of the most glamorous Concours d’Elegance of the summer, organized by Auto Classic and Between Communication in collaboration with the Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu and Bcool City Magazine. On July 10th, 11th and 12th 2020, authentic four-wheeled jewels from the most important Italian and  European collections of vintage cars will parade the streets of the Costa Smeralda.

The competition’s jury will be chaired for the third year in a row by Paolo Tumminelli, the well-known automotive historian who in recent years has created and refined an almost infallible evaluation system.

As is tradition by now, jury member and well-known designer Fabrizio Giugiaro will realize the trophy for the “Best in Show” that will be awarded to the winning car of the Concorso d’Eleganza Poltu Quatu Classic 2020. Other judges are Dominik Fischlin, member of the Selecting Committee of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and representative of FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens), Luciano Bertolero, founder of Auto Classic and renowned Ferrari experit, Afshin Behnia, CEO of Petrolicious, Alberto Vassallo, CEO of Car and Vintage, and J. Philip Rathgen CEO of Classic Driver -- representing three highly respected automotive media.

The grand jury of the 2020 edition of Poltu Quatu Classic will be completed by other leading figures of the automotive world such as David Giudici, director of Ruoteclassiche, Alberto Scuro, president of ASI (Italian Historic Cars Association), Enrico Renaldini, PR of Gare d’Epoca (the premier Italian website dedicated to classic cars events), Shinichi Ekko, journalist and President of Maserati Club Japan, Augustin Sebatié-Garat, Director of RM Sotheby’s Europe, and Ted Gushue, internationally renowned photographer and editorial director of the new official Porsche Type 7 magazine.

The innovations included in this year’s program are mainly about Saturday, which will start in the morning with a long scenic tour of the Costa Smeralda through a route designed ad hoc by the organizers to give the participants unforgettable sights to admire behind the wheel of their cars. The rest of the day will be lived in total relaxation at the famous Vesper Beach of Capriccioli made famous by the movie “007 - The Spy Who Loved Me” where the protagonist Roger Moore emerges with his car from the crystal clear water of the Costa Smeralda in the company of Barbara Bach, and where the modern-day protagonists of Poltu Quatu Classic 2020 will be guests of the Vesper Beach Club. There will be no shortage of vistas on the way back to Poltu Quatu for the parade and exhibition of the cars of the Concorso in Porto Cervo, just in time for aperitifs.

The participants will live other beautiful moments, between visits to historic villages of Sardinia and days at the beach, driving their vintage cars along the breathtaking scenery of the Costa Smeralda. Daredevils will even be able to experience the unique thrill of high speed at sea thanks to the “Off Shore Experience” included in this year’s program, organized in collaboration with 5-times Motorboating World Champion Aaron Ciantar.

GFG Style of Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro will bring to Sardinia two prototypes as a world premiere. Originally to be presented at the then-cancelled Geneva Motor Show, we are talking about the futuristic GFG Vision 2030 and the Bandini Dora the 100% electric “Barchetta” that relaunches the famous Italian brand founded in 1946 by Ilario Bandini.

Confirmed is also the final parade of cars in front of the Jury on Saturday night, to take place after the Gala Dinner at the Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu in the famous Piazzetta, illuminated just for that occasion. “Poltu Quatu is ready to make its guests experience a fairytale weekend this year too”, assures Daniele Pulcini, CEO of the Grand Hotel owner Group.

The organizers of the event will announce the classes for the competition in coming days, while the grand prize is already known: together with the “Best in Show” trophy, the winner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Poltu Quatu Classic 2020 will be awarded with a precious Eberhard watch and a precious Goodwool car cover, made in the image and shape of his car. The high-jewerly Maison Sabbadini will reward the most elegant woman in the Concorso with one of its famous jewels in the shape of Bee.

As is tradition, Simone Bertolero will lead the event aboard the legendary Fiat 500 Spiaggina, the favorite summer-time car by the who’s who of the international jet-set, including Gianni Agnelli and Aristotle Onassis. Also joining him in this year’s edition of the concorso will be the journalist Savina Confaloni, one of the most appreciated and well-known faces of the automotive world.

Last year’s edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Poltu Quatu Classic saw the Ferrari brand triumph, after the victories in previous editions had been taken by Alfa Romeo and Bugatti. Now we’ll have to patiently wait until July 12th to learn which car will be crowned the most elegant of the summer of 2020!
