Ferrari Honored At Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach, 17 August, 2015

It was an extraordinary day at the 65th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, considering the coastline’s reputation for thick morning fog and chilly temperatures: it was clear skies from dawn and temperatures near 30 C! The field of competitors on the Concours lawn was just as spectacular, including more than forty Ferraris in four special classes created for this year’s Honored Marque, including Ferrari Grand Touring; Ferrari Competition; Ferrari in the Pebble Beach Road Races; and Ferrari Preservation. In the end, Best In Show honors were awarded to a 1924 Isotta Frashini Tipo 8A, a grand old car for an equally grand occasion.

As tradition dictates, Ferraris from past and present delighted the crowds at the First Tee at the Pebble Beach Links. A Ferrari California T in unique Tailor Made livery — Rosso Ferrari 53 –- set the stage. It was flanked an F12berlinetta draped in Argento Nurburgring and, in Giallo Modena, the star of Monterey Car Week this year, the 488 GTB. Not to be outdone, the adjacent stage featured the few-off limited-edition Sergio, dedicated of course to design icon Sergio Pininfarina; and last year’s Best In Show winner, the 1954 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe.

At the auctions, prices realized for masterpieces from Maranello continued their skyward trajectory. So far, 3 of the 5 cars commanding the most significant prices throughout all the auctions have been Ferraris, with top honors going to the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM sold by RM Sotheby’s for $17.6 million. As the auctions enter the final stretch, no doubt Ferrari will continue to shatter expectations.
