Monterey "Nine over Nine" ... 80-pages coffee table book ... 9 days ranging from the Pre-Historics to the final shot of the Best of Show winner on the ramp at Pebble Beach (copy 1)

Monterey, 6 January, 2017

Every year in August the Monterey Peninsula becomes the center of the classic car scene when the Car Week attracts petrol heads from all over the world to meet likeminded in the Californian sun. What started decades ago with the famous Pebble Beach Concours d´Elegance became an action packed experience ranging from classic car racing at the famous Laguna Seca Racetrack, various auctions, single and multi marque gatherings and the final Concours spanning over two weekends.

During this time of the year all the car related media are overstuffed with pictures from the various locations and one could be overwhelmed by all the activities at the same time. Right after the car week a lot of publications pick out their stories to report on their favorite shows of the week but none of them can sum up the entire “madness” of the car week as this would go beyond the scope of every magazine.

So last year a small group of enthusiasts came up with the idea of joining forces to produce a coffee table book on the car week to cover as many events as possible to give a more comprehensive overview. They soon realized that this would require more manpower so initiator Llew Kinst invited a few fellow photographers to join in and the idea of “9 over 9” was born showing all the 9 days ranging from the Pre-Historics to the final shot of the Best of Show winner on the ramp at Pebble Beach through the camera of nine different photographers. With every photographer having his own style and preference this gives the subject an entertaining diversity.

80-pages 9x12 inch coffee table book featuring more than 300 photographs
What is intended to become an annual summary of the Monterey Car Week has its inaugural edition this year with a 80-pages 9x12 inch coffee table book featuring more than 300 photographs.

The book is currently funded on Kickstarter and should be ready for delivery in February. This is not just a book for all those who were not able to make it to Monterey last August but also for all those who want to remember a memorable week and recall those things they saw as well as those they missed as nobody is able to visit all the ongoing events.

The photographers are: Sean Cridland, Dennis Gray, Llew Kinst, Wouter Melissen, James Milne, Alan Rosenberg, Peter Singhof, John Straub and Bill Wagenblatt
