In merely 20 days, with practically half of the quota of 150 participants covered, entries for the twenty-fourth edition of the 1000 Millas Sport, to be held from November 28 to December 2, are soaring.
But this is only one of the latest and most relevant news. There is the confirmed visit – lunch included – to the exclusive Lewis Ranch on the shores of Lake Escondido, and also the declaration of provincial tourist interest by the Ministry of Tourism of Río Negro, in addition to the declarations of the National Ministry and the Municipality of Esquel.
Undoubtedly, the return to Patagonia has drawn the attention and curiosity of many foreign participants, as a great number has confirmed their presence.
Due to this expectation at an international level, the 1000 Miles, like in the 2009 and 2010 editions, have been endorsed by the Minister of Tourism of the Province of Río Negro, Ángel Rovira Bosch, who has acknowledged the promotional nature of the beautiful landscapes of Bariloche and its surroundings through Resolution 170.
Going back to the roads joining Esquel (phase 1), with Villa La Angostura (phase 2) and Lago Escondido (a real privilege that the participants will enjoy on the last day of the competition), has also created an unprecedented interest for local collectors and specialists in regularity rallies.
One of those already on the list of participants is none other than the winner of the 1000 Miles and 2011 Historical Sports Argentine champion, Daniel Erejomovich.
“Bariloche motivates. It’s my ideal as backdrop. That’s why, even though I won Córdoba last year, I would love to win it there”, says Erejomovich who will defend his title driving a new car.
“You have to find new motivations and in this case, one of them will be to drive in a pre-war vehicle. I will participate in a 1931 AC 16/80 Competition Sport. This car has a 2-liter cylinder engine, three carburetors, and a gearbox which, without synchronization, makes shifting gears really difficult", describes the Argentine champion.
Another challenge that motivates Erejomovich will be conquering the Triple Crown (he already won the Wineries' Rally, he will seek the best result in the Mountain Rally, and repeat the victory of the 1000 Miles).
“For me this year, the 1000 Miles is the race of the year. Because of the new car we need to prepare, and because I will defend my title. I have focused my season on this. It won’t be easy, though. Some competitors are improving and have passed on to the team that gives you a fight or wins races. There is one group – of some 10 pilots – that is in conditions to win”, he noted.
Finally, on whether the great rival will be Claudio Scalise, recent winner of the Mille Miglia, he points out that “Scalise and Claramunt, I think they’re the best, and then there is a very good group of 6 or 7 guys that are very close behind. I love it that they won in Italy. Of course I want to race there, and for Italians to come and race here in our 1000 Miles. I have all the confidence in the world even against them."
