Cameron Lawrence leads TA2 in wet practice to open Watkins Glen weekend

Watkins Glen, NY [September 7, 2017] – The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli officially commenced Round 9 of the 2017 Trans Am Championship at Watkins Glen International with a TA2 practice session in the midst of scattered showers.  Weather saw only seven members of the 22-car TA2 field take to the 3.4-mile course, with Cameron Lawrence and the No. 19 Class Auto Centers Chevrolet Camaro leading the way.

Lawrence would turn a 1:59.630 in the wet conditions, following up on another strong showing in the rain last round where he finished fourth despite a drive through penalty that saw the No. 19 moved back to 19th in class.  Lawrence also has a history of success at Watkins Glen; his first career Trans Am pole came at WGI in 2012 and he also logged a victory on the track in 2013 on the way to his first Trans Am championship.

Lawrence was followed in the session by the last minute addition Jason Hart, in the No. 12 Speedlogix Dodge Challenger, who turned a 2:01.412 in his second ever TA2 appearance—his first coming at Daytona International Raceway.   Third quick was Justin Haley, in the No. 99 Justin Haley Motorsports Ford Mustang, with a time of 2:05.893.

The TA2 top five was completed by Tom Sheehan, in the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Chevrolet Camaro, and Louis-Phillippe Montour, in the No. 13 Montour Ltd Chevrolet Camaro, with times of 2:07.838 and 2:19.972, respectively.

The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli weekend at Watkins Glen is being held in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association and its US Vintage Grand Prix weekend.
