Terre di Canossa 2019 Fast Approaching its Ninth Anniversary!

Mark the 11th-14th April 2019 in your calendar. These are the dates of the ninth “Terre di Canossa”, an itinerary cruising the delightful roads of Emilia, Liguria and Tuscany with the recurring, unrivalled combination of sport, passion, scenery, culture and unforgettable evening entertainment. Scenic towns and cities, a marvelous countryside, ancient castles, rolling hills and challenging mountain passes provide the backdrop for one of the top rallies in the array of international classic car events.

As always, the rally will be limited at 100 cars to maintain the highest standards of hospitality. Once again, registrations are expected to close well ahead of the deadline, once the maximum number of crews has been reached, serving as testimony of this event’s unmitigated success. The geographical diverse participants will be representing equally Italy, the rest of Europe, and countries further abroad.

On Thursday 11th April the participants will meet up at Salsomaggiore Terme for scrutineering and administrative checks, following by the dinner gala by Michelin star chef Massimo Spigaroli in Salone Moresco, a marvellous example of Art Nouveau architecture (Liberty style). The rally will head off on Friday 12th April with the cars setting out from the center of Salsomaggiore Terme for the Autodromo di Varano de’Melegari where a series of time trials awaits them on this famous racetrack. From here, they will then enjoy the drive through the Apennine hills crossing Passo della Cisa to Borgo Val di Taro and across Passo della Cappelleta, heading down to Massa and lovely Malaspina Castle. The crews will bed at the best hotels in Forte dei Marmi.

On Saturday 13th, after setting off from central Piazza Marconi, the route will explore Tuscany’s spectacular scenery and some of the most famous art cities in Italy. The cars will parade through the heart of Pisa and then pass through Lucca’s lovely old town and parade on the old city walls. The route then continues on the spectacular and challenging roads through the Garfagnana area, across Passo del Vestito to the center of Carrara before entering Forte dei Marmi, the pearl of Versilia. There the evening will culminate, as always, with the long-awaited Beach Party; an unforgettable night on Bambaissa beach featuring live music starting at sunset.

On Sunday 14th, the crews will experience the challenging roads of the Apuan Alps and, after driving through Sarzana town centre, test their skills behind the wheel on the bends leading up to the Cerreto pass. The rally will conclude on the Piazza del Duomo in Reggio Emilia, where lunch and the awards ceremony will be held in a location linked to the passion for classic cars: Ruote da Sogno

Overall, the rally will cover an itinerary of around 600 km and include 6 average speed trials and 60 challenging timed trials. It is designed to avoid overexerting older vehicles that can be tricky to maneuver, and to accommodate those competing with a  trusty old mechanical chronometer.

It is worthwhile to emphasize that the Terre di Canossa is the only event of its kind that puts great attention on its impact on the environment. The organizers decided to adopt the CarbonZero protocol several years ago, employing measures which help reduce our impact on the environment, by calculating the residual emissions of climate-changing gases and compensating with trees planted in the Tuscan Emilian Apennine Mountains.
