RM’s Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook once again acts as a prelude to the 2010 Concours when it returns July 24. Featuring over 100 automobiles, highlighted by a magnificent assortment of American classics, the sale promises an exciting range of ownership opportunities for discerning collectors.
Leading an exciting inventory of automobiles set for the auction podium is a one-off 1953 Chrysler “Thomas Special” Coupe with coachwork by Ghia. A unique concept car commissioned by Chrysler and built by Virgil Exner for the auto show circuit, the Thomas Special was gifted by Chrysler to C.B. Thomas, president of Chrysler’s Export Division. It is surrounded by an extraordinary series of other classics originating from the local Detroit area, including a rare 1939 Packard 120 Convertible Victoria, one of approximately eight examples built; and a handsome 1931 Chrysler CG Imperial Roadster Convertible, considered one of the best driving and finest open cars of the period.
Other notable entries include a variety of investment-quality motor cars from the estate of the late Mr. John O’Quinn, including a well-known, majestic 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan with coachwork by Murphy and an elegant 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Henley Roadster, one of less than ten known Henley Roadsters.
Concours Sunday is the main event of the weekend, featuring a field of over 200 cars along with a range of vintage motorcycles. Featured highlights include a wonderful series of Celebrity Owned Cars like the Nash Healy that was used in the 50’s TV program ‘Superman’, to a great selection of Sports and European Cars, including a highly-desirable 1959 Ferrari 250 LWB California Spyder and a beautiful 1939 Rolls Royce Phantom III, along with a Super Car Display featuring the new Lingenfelter Firebird T/A Formula, to be displayed for the first time at any major concours.
The one-day event will feature some of the best cars in the world, offering a diverse field of traditional concours cars, along with the greatest examples of automotive history, including a 1942 Packard Darrin, owned by star Gene Autry, a stunning 1937 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atalante, a magnificent 1938 Talbot Lago 150-C Tear Drop Coupe, as well as the 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton owned by the son of Matilda Dodge, former resident of Meadow Brook Hall.
