LONDON, 2 October 2019

RM Sotheby’s is delighted to release the complete catalogue for its 13th annual London sale, to take place on 24 October at a new location—the renowned Olympia event space in West Kensington. Final entries for the sale, which features 84 collector cars, 13 lots of automobilia, and 1 motorcycle, are led by a Ferrari Enzo alongside a host of other stunning cars made by the Italian marque. These sit alongside a grouping of Aston Martin models spearheaded by an immaculate Vanquish Zagato, while the London sale will also play host to Sotheby’s presentation of ‘The Ultimate Whisky Collection’, estimated in the region of £4,000,000.

A European-delivery example, the 2003 Ferrari Enzo is one of approximately 400 models built and has covered fewer than 15,000 km from new. Capable of blistering power and performance, the Enzo continues to evolve as a distinct representation of its era, cemented in history as an iconic instalment in Ferrari’s lineage of elite hypercars. This example benefits from a recent freshening after years of storage and minimal use. Chassis no. 135870 completed assembly in December 2003, finished in Rosso Corsa paint over Nero leather upholstery. The car had two former owners before it was purchased by the consignor, a Ferrari enthusiast living in the UK and principal of a Ferrari privateer outfit that specializes in competition preparation and support for modern Ferrari race cars. With that, the car has been carefully serviced under the owner’s supervision since 2015 (Est. £1,500,000 - £1,700,000).

Joining the 2003 Ferrari Enzo and the previously announced 1994 Ferrari 412 T1 offered from the Autobau Collection, is an incredible lineup of 11 additional Ferraris, ranging from 1961 to 2018. Standout highlights set for the London auction include a 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GT by Scaglietti, a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series I by Pininfarina, and a 2018 Ferrari 488 GTB 70th Anniversary. One of just 13 right-hand-drive examples supplied to the UK, the Dino 246 GT has covered just 7,757 miles from new. Equipped with the distinctive flared wheel arches and Daytona-style seats, a pairing nicknamed the ‘Chairs and Flares’ option, the Dino represents a great opportunity to acquire a rare example in wonderful condition (Est. £390,000 - £450,000). An Italian-delivery example, the 250 GTE, chassis no. 2947, comes to auction retaining its original engine and benefitting from a recent full restoration including an engine rebuild by GTO Engineering (Est. £325,000 - £375,000). Rounding out the highlights, the 488 GTB is virtually as-new throughout, having accumulated only delivery mileage, with single ownership from new (Est. £260,000 - £310,000).

The Aston Martin marque is also very well represented at RM Sotheby’s London sale, with 10 lots set to go under the hammer, led by the rare 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, chassis no. DBVC/3677/R. The image of the quintessential British gentleman is exemplified no more fittingly than with Aston Martin’s iconic DB series of sports cars, and the last of the series, the DB6, drove better, looked better, and even held more people—truly the best of the line. One of just 140 DB6 Mk I Volantes ever produced, the original, right-hand-drive, London-delivery example is offered by RM Sotheby’s following a no-expense-spared restoration by Aston Martin Works in 2012 (Est. £550,000 - £650,000). Also set for the sale is the immaculate 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe Villa d’Este, the 19th of 99 examples built and reading only 22 miles on the odometer. The Vanquish has had single ownership from new, with invoices showing that it has been meticulously maintained as it has been serviced regularly by HWM Aston Martin (Est. £400,000 - £550,000).

In conjunction with Sotheby’s Wine, the London auction will also feature ‘The Ultimate Whisky Collection’, the most valuable collection of whisky ever to be offered at auction and the company’s first single-owner offering of spirits. Showcasing the most comprehensive range of desirable Scotch whisky to come to the market from a private ‘cellar’, the collection is estimated to bring in the region of £4,000,000. The 394 lots on offer are led by The Macallan 1926 60 Years Old from Cask #263 – known as “The ‘Holy Grail’ of Whisky”.

Will Smith, Auction Manager and Car Specialist at RM Sotheby’s, commented: “Just as it is every year, our London auction is shaping up to be a truly special event thanks to the excellent range of automotive lots we have ready for bidding. These groupings of Aston Martin and Ferrari cars cater for all corners of the classic car collector market, from the new to the old and from cherished classics to motorsport icons. Every car is presented in blue-chip condition, with the Enzo being a stand-out example of a meticulously maintained hypercar sure to attract bidder attention. We look forward to welcoming the Ultimate Whisky Collection sale as part of our auction as another avenue of interest for the discerning collector and making for a full day of exciting opportunities.”
