Historique connu

The first "500" produced by Abarth was made for the Turin Salon in 1957 and subsequently produced in a few specimens. It is an elaborate car using the special pieces built by Abarth that keeps the exterior appearance of the model from which it is derived is almost unchanged.

To demonstrate the robustness of the engine, despite the considerable increase in power, in September and October 1958, several test sessions were organized on the Monza autodrome. An Abarth 500, featuring aerodynamic bodywork specially designed by Pininfarina, conquered 28 speed primates at various distances, conducted by pilots like Giancarlo Baghetti, Mario Poltronieri and Corrado Manfredini. In one of the tests, the car rolled for 7 days, at an average speed of 111 km / h.

In 1963, the "595" was produced, produced until the end of 1971 in two series: the first had the bodywork of the "500 D"; the second had the "500 F" bodywork. Abarth received incomplete cars from the FIAT and mounted special pieces on them. These parts consisted of dashboard (with specific instrumentation equipped with speedometer, odometer, tachometer, petrol level indicator and oil temperature indicator), 3-spoke steering wheel, Solex C 28 PBJ carburettor mounted on a special aluminum housing, aluminum oil cup, system suction and discharge of specific gases, etc. It should also be mentioned that on these versions the rear hatch, which closed the engine in the back of the car, was raised with stops to increase the engine cooling and therefore its efficiency. Once assembled, the "595 Abarth" was sold through its dealers.

In February 1964, the 595 SS was presented with a maximum speed of 130 km / h. In the same year the 695 and 695 SS were also presented, both with a total displacement of 689 cm³ and with a maximum speed of 130 km / h and 140 km / h respectively. In September 1965, the 695 SS Assetto Corsa was introduced, replaced in 1969 by the 695 SS Competizione.
