Historique connu

Delivered new to Monaco in July 1984, this Lamborghini Countach then spent several decades in the US, in all probability under the Californian sunshine. In 2013, it was bought through a dealer in Southern California by an enthusiast who decided to restore the car. He spent around 30 000 $ in the workshop of the Italian car specialist FastCars Limited.

In January 2016, when the mileage stood at 61 774 km, this Lamborghini Countach was bought in San Francisco by the current owner. He had been searching for a long time for an example in this colour combination that reminded him of posters on his student bedroom wall. Being a meticulous owner, he had a long list of jobs carried out, including new shock absorbers and new paintwork, and the car was serviced by his chosen business Top Motors in Italy. Today, the car is presented in superb condition. The exterior paintwork, in its original colour, is immaculate, and the alignment of the panels is of the quality expected in a car like this. It is fitted with Carello fog lamps. The interior also corresponds to its original presentation and colour. It has been completely re-upholstered and the leather on the seats, dashboard and central console is free of any marks or tears, the same as the carpets. It has retained its original instruments and controls, and the air-conditioning works well. There are a few signs of wear on the steering wheel and the gear knob.

The engine bay is very neat. This is a matching numbers car, with its original engine. It is fitted with a stainless-steel exhaust, and a compression test, carried out in 2016, gave a reading of 135-140 psi with a loss of 3% on the 12 cylinders, in other words, excellent. The gear change has no synchronisation issues and in general, the car's road-handling corresponds to a car that has been very well preserved.

This LP 500 S version is particularly attractive with a body that had been lightly re-styled by Alfieri, making it more usable than the very first Countach. In addition, it was given a 4.8-litre engine, more powerful than the LP 400 versions. With some 375 bhp, it boasted a top speed of close to 300 km/h, exceptional for its day, and it is still rare to find a car that accelerates as energetically. The Countach remains a rare phenomenon in automobile history, with an appearance unlike any other car, then as now. The masterly pencil lines of Marcel Gandini sketched out a work of genius, confirming Lamborghini as one of the top constructors of the most exclusive supercars. This superb example is a fitting tribute to the special qualities of this rare machine.
