Last weekend in June saw the 20^th edition of the Festival of Speed. Beside the Goodwood Revival in September on the nearby Race Track the Hill Climb at the end of June is one of the seasons highlights. During the last 19 years the event became a must see both for classic car lovers and fans of the latest Supercars that became an own additional day on Thursday. With the loss of an British Motor Show this is also the compensation for the large manufacturer and a good place to present their new cars to a highly interested audience. As you might have seen on various press releases in the last weeks several cars made their debut in Goodwood.

But certainly the Festival of Speed is primarily dedicated to race cars both from past to the latest Le Mans and Formula 1 cars. The crew around the Earl of March brings up another theme every year and new classes of cars running up the hill, this year's main feature also shown in the sculpture in front of Goodwood house was Lotus. Fans of the British marque must have been in seventh heaven as this might have been the largest gathering of Lotus with the famous British racing green livery, the Gold Leaf and JPS colours. Additionally several Lotus could be bought at the Bonhams Auction on Friday evening.

Other special features included the Pikes Peak hill climb and 30 years of the legendary Group C including several Porsche 956/962, Silk Cut Jaguars and Sauber-Mercedes.

Later Le Mans racers are very popular as well and this year's winning Audi E-Tron was not just static presented but ran up the hill on all three days. Many Formula 1 cars brought their last years car (due to the ban of testing of the current ones) to be driven by their regular drivers as Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and the local heroes Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button making burnouts up the hill.

A Formula 1 legend of the past was honoured with a display for forth time world champion Alain Prost, other special displays included this year concours dedicated to the diamond jubilee of the Queen.
