Revitalised GT Sports Club steps up preparations for 2021 season

Preparations are well underway for the launch of the new GT Sports Club, with events at leading European circuits set to kick off the 2021 season.

The revitalised concept consists of two competitive categories: the Fanatec GT2 European Series caters for the new breed of machinery, while the GT Rebellion Series features latest-generation GT3 cars.

The Fanatec GT2 European Series will contest a five-round calendar in 2021 as planned, with each event featuring a pair of 50-minute sprint races for either single or two-driver entries. The new championship will officially launch at Monza (16-18 April) in support of Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS.

The Italian circuit was also set to host the GT Rebellion Series season opener, as well as a one-off GT3 Anniversary contest celebrating 15 years since the launch of the hugely popular category. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions that limit the number of people on site, the series taking part in the meeting had to be reduced and the duration of the Monza event condensed from four days to three. The reduced track time available has made it necessary to postpone both the GT Rebellion Series round and the GT3 Anniversary contest.

The GT Rebellion Series will therefore begin at Hockenheim on 14-15 May, where it will run alongside the second meeting of the Fanatec GT2 European Series campaign. A new date for the GT3 Anniversary event will be confirmed in due course.

To compensate for the Monza round, the GT Rebellion Series will add an event at Spa Speedweek (23-25 July), which takes place in the Ardennes one week before the marquee Total 24 Hours of Spa. This will see participants join the grid for the Intelligent Money British GT Championship meeting, contesting a two-hour race at the iconic Belgium venue.

Following events at Monza, Hockenheim and Silverstone, the Fanatec GT2 European Series will form part of a packed programme at Spa Speedweek before culminating at Circuit Paul Ricard on 1-3 October. The GT Rebellion Series will also conclude at the French venue, wrapping up a four-event schedule for the new GT3 championship.
