Peaks of the Alps and the Dolomites

In the 16 years that Via Flaminia has been organising rallies, we have never been in to Austria. And Austria is such a logical destination. It has magnificent mountain roads, great hotels and it is on the way to our beloved Italy.

One of the major challenges in Austria is to get to know your way. In Italy authorities are much more welcoming, in Austria, you need to know your way. This is way we approached Kurt Dichtl, who – for many years – has been organising the Austria Classic. We will be running his 2020 event. Of course we add a bit of our Via Flaminia “sauce”.

The rally is supported by the department of tourism from Osttirol.

Actually, many of our participants have participated to one of his rallies, and to great satisfaction.

The rally will centre on the 5-star Grand Hotel Lienz. Each day will see a different route into the mountains, sometimes into Italy onto the Dolomites, some days we remain in Austria.

The challenge is not so much in finding the correct route. It is much more in driving some of the narrow and steep stretches and taking the numerous hairpins. The welcoming hotel with all the facilities and especially with a well stocked bar at the terrace is crucial after each day at the wheel.

As with all the rallies organized by Via Flaminia the competition serves the atmosphere, winning is not a goal on itself. Those who want to have a stop for a coffee can do so. No time constraint. The classification is done through navigation and some special stages. The competition for the last place can be fierce.

There are 30 entry positions for cars up to 1980.

For teams who’s added age is under 100, there is a discount of 1% for each year less then 100, with a maximum of 20% (reference year 2021). They may also bring a younger car, one year per 2 years younger then 100.
