We are pleased to offer pre-L model 1972 De Tomaso Pantera s/n 03503, unquestionably among the most attractive of the exotic Italian automotive designs of the golden-era of pre-rubber-bumper, pre-smog supercars. Thanks to the sleek body lines penned by Tom Tjaarda and coachwork by Ghia, the chrome-bumper Pantera features a long, low hood line, a compact yet comfortable cabin and an abrupt cutoff Kamm tail rear, trademark styling of other 1970s mid-engined supercars such as the Lamborghini Miura and the Maserati Bora. Abundant power is supplied thanks to an ultra-dependable, mid-mounted, 4-bolt main 5.7-liter, 351 Ford Cleveland engine. While the original Pantera was easily capable of the supercar performance levels of the Miura and far quicker than the Maserati Bora, the Pantera was also known for its effortless torque at both low and high speeds and ultra-low cost maintenance. Thanks to a low center of gravity, excellent weight distribution, minimal weight on the front end, a bullet-proof 5-speed ZF transaxle, a powerful clutch and more-than adequate A/C, the Pantera is user-friendly, easy to drive, predictable, balanced and forgiving. The lightweight small block Ford 351 was mounted deep in the chassis, permitting the sweeping rear profile, while lots of rubber on the ground meant great traction and handling.

1972 De Tomaso Pantera s/n 03503 was sold new by Sachs & Sons, 9515 Lakewood Blvd., Downey, CA and has, we believe, been a southern California car from new. In 2007-2008 s/n 03503 was restored by Larry Ducas who owned a chain of auto parts stores in the Riverside area. Thanks to Larry Ducas’s connections in the world of performance and racing parts, s/n 03503 was stripped to bare metal and repainted in an attractive yellow over the original black interior. The engine, transaxle, brakes and suspension were all rebuilt and s/n 03503 was then shown at multiple southern California vintage car shows in 2008-2012 before going to the current owner, who is also involved in the classic cars parts business, in 2013. We have the Marti Report on file.

Pantera s/n 03503 has been refinished in an attractive yellow with the original black interior which is in good condition. The body and chassis are accident free, rust free and it’s as clean underneath as topside. It is mounted on near new Michelin Pilot Sport ZR rated 225/45 ZR 17 front and 335/35 ZR 17 rear tires fitted to a striking set of 8″ x 17″ front and 11″ x 17″ rear CNC machined magnesium wheels by Pantera International. Cosmetically, this is a very attractive example with an excellent and damage free body. The panels are straight, the panel fit is excellent and all body gaps are true and consistent. The paint is very good and the chrome trim is also in very good condition, as are the lights and glass. The interior is in good original condition and is fitted with an aftermarket steering wheel. The upholstery is all very nice throughout, including the seats, door panels, center console, dashboard and firewall. The carpets are excellent in a high quality wool. The switches, controls and gauges are also in very good condition. The body and chassis are rust free. The cooling system has been updated with an aluminum radiator and modern cooling fans. All metal cooling tubes are stainless steel. The suspension arms and suspension uprights have been powder coated and the suspension bushing, the wheel bearings and the “U” joints were all replaced plus the brake calipers were rebuilt. The exhaust system is stainless steel. The underbody, floors and chassis are rust, damage and scrape free.

The engine compartment is excellent. The transaxle, engine, inner fenders and suspension are very clean, making for a very high quality driver condition. Pantera s/n 03503 runs and drives extremely well with great power through the RPM range. The engine is well-tuned and sounds as it should, with the quintessential American V8 rumble. The car is powerful and moves easily through modern traffic. The ZF transaxle shifts superbly, with excellent synchromesh, even when cold. The brakes are effective, and the steering and suspension are free from any play. There are zero overheating problems.

This is a great opportunity to acquire an absolutely rust free, fully-sorted and serviced US-delivered Pantera in excellent cosmetic condition. It is a structurally excellent example that makes a strong cosmetic impression and delivers exceptional performance, retaining the purity of the early 1970s cars. Pantera s/n 03503 gives Daytona performance at 1/10 the cost, with much lower maintenance. Because it is a 1972 year model, it is smog-exempt in California and most other states. Fly in for an inspection and test drive. This is a stunning Pantera in a very elegant yellow on black combo that offers a massive amount of bang for the buck and will not disappoint. Has 53,775 miles. Priced right at $79,500 or best offer, this car is seriously for sale.
