Astonishing Single-Owner Carrera Collection to be Held Over two Separate Auctions in July

London, 11th May, 2023

RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce further details regarding the sale of the incredible Carrera Collection. Continuing its reputation as the leading auction house for single-owner collections, this remarkable selection of cars is no exception, with there being a cumulative figure of 86 cars in total, with around 50 in the first Swiss-based sale and around 30 in the Italian-based sale.

The first half of the two-part sale will be held in Switzerland at the Hotel Meilenstein in Langenthal on 7 July. This is the larger portion of the Collection and boasts some remarkable examples, including a stunning 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, which is offered in its beautiful original colours of Light Yellow over Black. It is a fully matching-numbers example and is an outstanding example of the celebrated Stuttgart homologation special (Estimated: CHF400,000 - CHF450,000). Remarkably, there is another 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, finished in the highly desirable factory-specified colour of Tangerine and specified with Recaro seats. With a kerb weight of just 1,075 kg, and a 2.7-litre version of the 911 S engine, the 2.7 RS built an iconic reputation for performance and handling and is a much-coveted car in today’s market. This well-cared-for 2.7 RS is a great example of one of Porsche’s most desirable halo models (Estimate: CHF350,000 - CHF400,000).

Also on offer is a 1963 Porsche 356 B Carrera 2 2000 GS Coupé by Reutter, Porsche’s first-ever production model. Finished in its beautiful factory-correct colour combination of Ivory White over black leatherette, this example was delivered new to Sonauto in Paris, France, and is offered having had an extensive restoration that took seven years to complete (Estimate: CHF360,000 - CHF450,000). Another early example is the 1963 Porsche 356 B by Reutter presented in rare Carrera 2 ‘Sunroof’ Coupé specification. Restored in 2012 by a 356-specialist workshop in Italy, the car presents in its original factory specification (Estimate: CHF350,000 - CHF450,000).

The Carrera Collection ... Italy

Oliver Camelin, Director of Sales, Switzerland says, “It is incredibly rare that a collection of Porsches of this quantity and quality comes to market. It features a wide and exceptional cross-section of 911s, many of which boast rare specifications or are limited-edition cars. With all cars offered across both the sales with no reserve, this is an exciting opportunity for Porsche enthusiasts.”

The Carrera Collection is not just limited to road cars, with a particular highlight being the 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 Evolution. This was the highest-performance version of the air-cooled era of the 911, and this example was rebuilt in the mid-2010s by Rennsport of Reggio Emilia, Italy. It is accompanied by an extensive history file that includes FIVA and ACI technical passports. This example offers the chance to own the ultimate evolution of the air-cooled 911 and is estimated to sell for between CHF350,000 - CHF450,000.

The Swiss sale, to be held on 7 July, will also feature a total of three BMW Z8 Roadsters and two Alpina V8 Roadsters, six 911 Speedsters of different eras, three 911 S’s, three 356’s, two 2.7 RS Tourings, three 911 Turbos, and four GT3 RSs from different generations.

The second sale of The Carrera Collection will be in Italy at Sotheby’s Milan on 12 July and feature a fine selection of European Union-registered cars. This includes a 1959 Porsche 356 A Carrera 1600 GT Coupé by Reutter, which is offered with period competition history with class wins at the 1959 Pontedecimo-Giovi and Aosta-Pila hillclimbs. This example is arguably the ultimate iteration of the 356 A model, with quad-camshaft engine and lightweight components, and is highly eligible for participation in significant concours and vintage motorsport events across the globe. Accompanied by period photographs, Kardex document, FIVA assessment book, and past registration documents, it is estimated to sell for between €400,000 - €500,000.

Another notable model is the 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S prototype, which was equipped with the final and most technologically advanced air-cooled 911 Turbo engine. This highly specified example served as a factory prototype and was then delivered new to the German market and includes over 30 optional extras, including a sunroof, heated racing-style sport seats, and a period Motorola 2200 car phone. Offered in the quintessential colours of Artic Silver Metallic over burgundy leather trim, this unique example is estimated to sell between €300,000 - €400,000.

Also on offer in the Italian sale is a 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Showing under 7,500 kilometres on the clock, the car features a 3.6-litre flat-six paired to a six-speed manual, resulting in a scintillating analogue driving experience. Presented with its Porsche Warranty and Service Book, this is a great opportunity to acquire what was Porsche’s most powerful production car ever built when launched (Estimate: €240,000 - €280,000). Always popular with collectors is the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster, and the example offered is a beautiful shade of paint-to-sample Elfenbein with colour-matched Fuchs wheels. Also offered with the desirable optional extras of air conditioning, limited slip differential, and shortened gear shift lever (Estimate: €150,000 - €200,000).

The Italian sale features a total of six 911 Ss, four 356s, four Porsche 911 Targas, and seven 911 Turbos from differing generations and will take place on 12 July at the Sotheby’s office in Milan at the stunning Palazzo Serbelloni.
