Artcurial Motorcars will launch 2021 with an exceptional sale on 5 February: Parisienne 2021. The auction will be streamed on YouTube and social media and Artcurial Motorcars specialists will also present the cars and collections live on social media during the viewing period.
An important highlight of the sale is the 1932 Bugatti Type 55 by Vanvooren, offered with an estimate of €4.0-6.0 Mio. Winner of the first Lyon-Charbonnières Rally, the car has benefitted from a state-of-the-art restoration and it is presented in its exact original configuration. It is rare to find a Type 55 with matching numbers and 70% of its original coachwork, and this example is particularly rare, being one of just two Type 55s bodied by Vanvooren!
Another outstanding lot in the sale is the 1965 Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante, a wonderful example of the rarest road-going Aston model produced. Just 12 left-hand drive cars were built and this is the only one to have been delivered new in the attractive colour, Autumn Gold. It is estimated to fetch between €1.2 and 1.6 Mio.
The 1957 Porsche 550A Spyder started its life in the United States and comes with impressive race history, having competed at the most prestigious circuits between 1957 and 1963. In addition to winning several races, the car also came second at Pikes Peak in 1960 in the hands of multiple Indianapolis 500-winner Roger Ward. With continuous history, the car has been carefully restored with the aim of conserving evidence of its life in competition. It has an estimate of €3.8- 4.4 Mio.
According to Matthieu Lamoure, Managing Director of Artcurial Motorcars, “With this year’s Retromobile Salon postponed until June, Paris will remain the focus of the Collectors’ Car world during early February with our auction, which presents a selection of stars from Grand Touring and Motor Racing history.”
In addition to the ‘So British’ collection, the line-up of imposing GT cars presented includes a superb example of what was the most expensive car of its day: the Bentley Continental R. This 1954 car is one of 23 left-hand drive examples with floor-mounted manual gear change and an aluminium body. Restored by the top English specialist during the 1990s, the car is presented in outstanding condition. It is the quintessential “Gentleman’s car”, having previously been owned by the producer of the famous 1968 film ‘The Night of the Living Dead’! It is estimated to fetch between €1.4 M and 1.8 Mio.
The highly anticipated star of the sale is, without a doubt, the Matra MS670, winner of the 1972 Le Mans 24 Hours driven by Henri Pescarolo and British driver Graham Hill. This racing machine is complete with its celebrated V12 Matra engine capable of an amazing vocal range from bass to soprano! The car has never changed hands, having always belonged to the constructor. This Matra won the first of the marque’s three victories in the 24 Hour race at Le Mans, the most famous race in the world. It has an estimate of $4.0-7.5 Mio.
