The stunning backdrop of Donnington Priory, Newbury deserves an auction of style and presence and that’s exactly what’s promised by H&H, which is holding its inaugural Coupés & Cabriolets event there on August 8. It will be the third of the company’s newly-established ‘Specialist’ sales, the first two of which – held at The Imperial War Museum Duxford and Rockingham Castle respectively – were extremely successful. The venue is the home of H&H’s partner, the fine art auction group Dreweatts, and has been described by the Antiques Trade Gazette as ‘the finest saleroom in the country’.
Early entries for the sale include:
• 1956 Aston Martin DB2/4 Vantage Drop Head Coupe – this magnificent DB2/4 is one of very few DHCs made and is equipped with desirable Vantage engine (£180,000-220,000)
• 1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster – superbly finished in Old English White and uprated with 3.8-litre XK engine and 5-speed Getrag gearbox (£70,000-80,000)
• 1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Litre Roadster – very pretty left-hand drive example in Old English White (£60,000-70,000)
• 1946 Bentley MKVI Fixed Head Coupe by James Young – a rare and most elegant MKVI recorded in a number of authoritative Bentley books (£45,000-55,000)
• 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 – the very type immortalised by Steve McQueen in Bullitt; arguably the greatest cinematic car chase of all time (£45,000-50,000)
• 1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Coupe – a very tidy Series I example in Red with Black leather interior (£35,000-45,000)
• 1939 Bentley 4 1/4 Litre Experimental Saloon by Park Ward – the only survivor of four B50 Works test cars. Fascinating and historically important (No Reserve) |
