HERO Summer Trial
The HERO Summer Trial was established to encourage entries from people new to classic rallying or to appeal to those with limited free time whilst still maintaining a sufficiently competitive element to appeal to the more competitive crews. The concept clearly worked and each year the event attracts newcomers whilst retaining its core of enthusiastic supporters. 2018 saw the highest number of crews and the highest number of females since the inauguration of the Summer Trial, an indication that the reputation of both the event and HERO is spreading far afield.

The Summer Trial returns to the Peak District – returning to the excellent CASA Hotel in Chesterfield, the Summer Trial is the ideal way to start your adventure into historic regularity rallying. The event is aimed at those new to rallying, it can also be used as a great way to shake down your car for longer events or introduce your partner or a family member to the sport. The format of the event is designed so less impact is placed on your work commitments, a prologue takes part on Friday afternoon, this is very straightforward and eases you into the Summer Trial.

Saturday is a full day’s rallying, Sunday will finish in the early afternoon with a prize giving and buffet lunch which allows you to be back at work on Monday. Navigation is by straightforward tulip diagrams with some simple, straight-forward map sections to help you progress. The driving tests are held on private land, and will allow you to enjoy your vehicle at it’s best!

The Summer Trial has quickly become the UK’s favorite Summer event, it attracts crews from all over Europe, early entry is advisable. The event is classified as Introductory, making it suitable for any level of experience, there is no night time driving, most roads used on the route and driving tests are sealed tarmac. The emphasis of the Summer Trial has always been a fun yet competitive event which caters for all levels of ability, absolute novice to seasoned expert.

The 2019 Summer Trial will run a Masters Class, which will also be introduced on other Green Events where the difficulty of the navigation is not designed for the expert or experienced crews

The Class has been created for novice and beginner events to allow these crews to be in a position to challenge for overall and Class honours whilst at the same time not preventing the more experience crews, who wish to shake down their cars or just come along and enjoy the social side of the event, to still compete for the honour of being the best overall Master
