Monaco, 11.-13.05.2012
The second weekend in May saw the 8th edition of the biannual Monaco Historic Grand Prix to start a very busy month in the classic car scene. Within three weeks classic car enthusiasts from all over the world can visit the best of racing, rally and concours with the Monaco HGP, the Mille Miglia and the Concorso d´Eleganza in south Europe.

The beginning was the very prestigious city Grand Prix that uses the closed off Monaco race track for the regular Grand Prix in 2 weeks time. 7 classes with single seaters dating from before WW2 to 1978 plus a sports car race remembering the 1952 edition were started on Sunday for races between 30 and 45 minutes after two practice days. After the very intensive race in the Formula 3 two years ago the amount of cars entered required the split of the practice sessions and a heat on Saturday to cut down the field to a reasonable size as to many cars with different pace are very dangerous on a narrow track like the city centre of Monaco.
But not just race fans came to Monaco to watch the races but also many collectors visited the three auctions at the weekend: Bonhams, Coys and especially RM Auctions who could tie on their successive 2010 sale in the principality.
We have put together a small preview of the things to come as we will report both on the races and the auctions in the next days together with the reports on the following Mille Miglia and the Villa d´Este Concours.
