Five Wins, Three Poll Positions, Two Further Podiums … Sotheby’s to Offer the Finest Schumacher F2003-Ga in Geneva Luxury Week Sale

London, 3rd October 2022

RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the sale of one of the most significant, ex-Michael Schumacher, Ferrari F1 cars, set to be sold at Sotheby’s Luxury Week in Geneva on 9 November.

The 2003 F2003-GA, proudly featuring the GA initials to honour the recently passed Fiat boss, Gianni Agnelli, was a revised version of the previous season’s F2002. Designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn, the F2003-GA featured new developments including a longer wheelbase to improve aerodynamics. Boasting one of the final V-10s featured in Formula One, the car produces 930-bhp and a rev limit of an astonishing 19,000 rpm.

During Schumacher’s title-winning 2003 Formula One season, he secured a remarkable five victories in chassis #229, including the Grand Prix in Spain, Austria, Canada, Italy, and the United States. Furthermore, the car secured three pole positions, three fastest laps, and a further two podium finishes in Monaco and France. This astonishing race record made chassis #229 instrumental in securing the sixth World Championship for Michael Schumacher, which at that time surpassed Fangio’s 46-year record, as well as gifting Ferrari its fifth consecutive constructor’s title.

Peter Wallman, Chairman, EMEA, says:RM Sotheby’s has a well-earned reputation for selling some of the finest competition cars in existence and we have an unrivalled track record in bringing the most important Formula One cars to auction. It is an honour to offer what ranks as one of the most important of all of Schumacher’s cars, if not one of the most significant Formula One cars of the past 25 years. It is fitting that such a car should be offered within a Sotheby’s sale, where discerning collectors active in the worlds of luxury, sports memorabilia, automotive, motorsport, and art, can take advantage of this rare opportunity. This car is an icon of motorsport, built by the one of greatest sports and racing car manufacturers of all time and piloted to victory by one of the greatest racing drivers of all time.”

Josh Pullan, Head of the Global Luxury Division at Sotheby’s, says: “We are absolutely delighted to include the sale of this incredible car during our luxury week sales in Geneva. Of course, this is not the first time that Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s have partnered to offer an important car within a Sotheby’s sale, but now that RM Sotheby’s is a more integrated entity within Sotheby’s Luxury Division, this is a wonderful example of how we can bring incredible objects to market in a collaborative way. We continue to offer the rarest and most sought-after objects to our passionate community of collectors across every category.”

“We believe in offering diversity to our passionate community of collectors who are attracted to multiple asset categories.”

Chassis #229 is presented in full track-ready condition, having recently had a shakedown on the Fiorano circuit by current F1 driver and son of Michael, Mick Schumacher. The car benefits from a full service and preparation by Scuderia Ferrari and comes with full Red Book Classiche certification. The engine has been run for just 148 miles since its overhaul, and the remainder of the drivetrain including the gearbox and clutch have only covered a small amount of their lifecycle.

This Formula One car represents the zenith of one of the most naturally gifted drivers in motorsport. Winning his sixth World Championship title, before his seventh and final championship the following year, this was truly Schumacher at his peak. Offered here in fully track-ready condition, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting Formula One propositions to ever reach the open market. The car is scheduled to go under the hammer at 4.00 PM CET on the 9th November 2022.
