The fourth round of the Ferrari Challenge UK took place at the Brands Hatch circuit

Brands Hatch, 03-04th September, 2022

The fourth round of the Ferrari Challenge United Kingdom took place at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, over the weekend of 03-04 September. The gathering also incorporated rounds of the Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic series, with both groups racing on the Indy circuit on the Saturday and the full Grand Prix circuit on the Sunday. Thus each day also featured practice and qualifying sessions for the respective circuits. There were also Passione Ferrari demonstration sessions on both days, for clients wishing to drive their own Ferraris or demonstrator cars provided by dealerships.

The Ferrari Challenge series features two classes, Trofeo Pirelli for the more experienced drivers, and Coppa Shell for those of lesser race experience. At Brands Hatch there was a very colourful fifteen car entry, although one was a non starter, the #30 example of Christian Colombo, chassis 223907. In the first race the field lost another runner, this being the #19 car of Graham de Zille, leaving only thirteen starters for the race on Sunday. Both races saw close action both at the head of the field and down through the order, with Lucky Kehra winning both races, by a small 2.926secs margin in the first race, and a miniscule 0.363sec in Race 2. The runner-up in Race 1 was the Dutch driver Han Sikkens, with the final Race 1 podium spot going to Andrew Morrow. The runner-up podium positions were reversed in Race 2, with Andrew Morrow claiming second place, whilst Han Sikkens finished a close third.

The Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic races also featured some good close battles through the field in the various classes. As with the Challenge series races, there was the same winner in both races, this being Tristan Simpson in his F355 Challenge car, and like the Challenge races by similar margins on both days, by 2.961secs on the Saturday and 0.848sec on the Sunday. In the Saturday race it was Colin Sowter in his 348 Challenge example that came second, whilst on the Sunday it was the F355 Challenge of Vance Kearney that took the runner-up spot after Colin Sowter had retired. In both races the final podium spot went to James Cartwright in his 328 GTB, winning his class in the process.
